FBLA publishes its whole year on one page — a Schedule at a Glance running from 1 August 2026 to the National Leadership Conference in Columbus, Ohio on 23-26 June 2027. Most students never open it, then lose the season to a March membership deadline they did not know existed. This is that calendar, laid out with what each date actually forces you to do.
The official national calendar, month by month
Everything in this table comes from FBLA’s published Schedule at a Glance 2026-2027 on fbla.org. It is the national layer only — your state, region or programme adds its own dates on top, and those are almost always earlier. Confirm anything here against fbla.org before you plan around it, because published schedules do get revised mid-year.

The five dates that can actually end your season
Most of the calendar is informational. Five entries are load-bearing, in the sense that missing them removes an option you cannot recover.
- 1 September — guidelines release. FBLA states the 2026-27 competitive event guidelines, including topics, go live at the beginning of September. Work built before this date against last year’s guideline may be wasted. This is a start gate, not a deadline, but it governs everything after it.
- 5 October — NFLC registration and housing. The only autumn conference decision. If nobody in your chapter raises it in September, it passes silently.
- 1 March — membership dues payment deadline for NLC competitors. This is the one that quietly ends seasons. It is an administrative payment, usually handled by an adviser, and a student who assumes they are “a member” because they attended meetings can find out in April that dues were never processed. Verify it in writing in February.
- 15 April — three scholarship deadlines on one day. The NLC scholarship, the NTHS scholarship and the Distinguished Business Leader scholarship all close. They are separate applications sharing a date.
- 4 May — NLC registration and housing. For a China-based competitor this is not really a May task, because everything travel-related has to be resolved before you can commit. See the back-planning section.
One date to pin down rather than assume: the 2026-27 Schedule at a Glance lists 1 May as the BAA and Excellence Award submission deadline for NLC recognition, and separately lists 1 June as a Champion Chapter deadline. Work to 1 May, and confirm the BAA date with your adviser and on fbla.org.
The calendar FBLA does not publish
The national schedule is roughly half of your real calendar. Three other layers sit on top of it, and all three run earlier.
- Your state or region. FBLA’s own materials point students to their state leader for state-level recognition dates rather than publishing them nationally. State conference dates, entry caps and qualification rules are set locally and typically fall between January and April — months before anything national.
- Your adviser’s internal deadline. Your adviser has to compile, verify and submit a whole chapter. Their cut-off for your materials will be days or weeks before the official one. This is the deadline that actually binds you, and it is the one nobody writes down.
- Your school’s calendar. Exam weeks, mock exams and coursework deadlines are fixed and non-negotiable in a way FBLA’s are not. Overlay them first.
A note on time zones: the published schedule prints dates, not clock times. Deadlines are administered on United States time, which is behind Beijing time, so a submission that feels “on the day” from China may already be late or early depending on how the portal is configured. Do not guess. Ask your adviser for the exact cut-off, and as a working habit treat the Beijing-time day before the listed date as your personal deadline.
Back-planning from Columbus: the China-side lead times
The 4 May registration deadline is where China-based competitors get caught, because it presumes the travel question is already settled. It is not a date you meet — it is a date you must have prepared for.
Here is the honest version of the travel layer: this article will not give you a number of weeks for a US visa appointment, because that figure changes constantly by post and any number printed here would be wrong within a month. Check current appointment wait times on the official US embassy or consulate website for your city, then subtract that from 4 May and put the result in your calendar as a hard personal date. For most families the sequence is: confirm passport validity, check appointment availability, then decide whether NLC travel is realistic — and do that in January, not April.
