FBLA runs two NLCs every year
The Middle School / High School NLC and the Collegiate NLC are separate national gatherings — different dates, different host cities, different competitive event slates — but both follow the same four-stage pyramid: chapter → state → national finals.

The 2026 MS/HS NLC is the program year’s flagship gathering — the venue where state placements translate into national signals and where the next year’s program direction is announced.
The conference runs Monday evening through Thursday afternoon, with chapter check-in and housing on Sunday and Monday. The opening session features keynote addresses, the parade of state delegations, the national officer team’s annual address, and recognition of corporate sponsors. State delegations sit together, identified by state delegation banners and chapter regalia.
The middle two days are dedicated to competitive event finals. Objective tests are administered in scheduled time blocks in large convention center rooms; presentation and team events are scheduled across multiple ballrooms with judging panels of business professionals. Production and project events have already been pre-judged, but presentation rounds for those events happen on-site.
Beyond competition, the NLC offers 50+ leadership workshops — business career exploration, college admissions panels, entrepreneurship seminars, and skill-building sessions led by FBLA alumni and corporate partners. The partner exhibit hall features 100+ college admissions reps and business sponsor booths.
The conference closes Thursday with the Awards of Excellence Recognition Session, where top-10 placers in every competitive event are announced and called to the stage. The session also includes national student officer election results and the announcement of the 2027 NLC location.

Las Vegas, Nevada · June 6 – 8
The 2026 FBLA Collegiate NLC runs a focused three-day schedule in Las Vegas, Nevada — approximately three weeks before the MS/HS event. The Collegiate program is the direct continuation of the FBLA pipeline for university members (formerly the Phi Beta Lambda division, retained for legacy continuity in event slates).
The competitive event slate is tailored for college-level competitors, with a heavier emphasis on case studies, consulting events, and presentation rounds. The Saturday opening kicks off the weekend, finals run Sunday, and the Monday morning session closes with the recognition ceremony and officer elections.
Networking is a major draw — the Collegiate NLC pairs FBLA alumni now in corporate roles with current college members, supporting the post-graduation career placement track. For students considering the FBLA pipeline beyond high school, this is the bridge event.

Four days in San Antonio
FBLA publishes the official daily schedule closer to the event date. The shape below is consistent across recent NLCs — opening on Monday, competitive finals Tuesday and Wednesday, awards and closing on Thursday.
Chapter arrival, check-in, and the opening session
Most chapters arrive Sunday afternoon for housing check-in. Monday is a full prep day — chapter meetings, business professional attire setup, and confirming competitive event rosters with chapter advisors. The conference opens Monday evening with the parade of state delegations, the keynote address, and the national officer team’s annual address.

Objective tests and team event preliminaries
The first full day of competition. Objective tests run in scheduled 50-minute blocks across large convention center rooms — students follow individualized schedules printed in the conference program. Team events run their preliminary rounds in parallel. Workshops and the exhibit hall are open for students without scheduled events.

The second full competition day focuses on presentation and project event finals. Production and project events that were pre-judged for state-level rankings now present on-site to national judging panels. The conference closes with the Awards of Excellence Recognition Session — the marquee event where top-10 placers in every competitive event are announced and called to the stage. National first-place winners receive trophies, scholarships, and prizes. The session also includes national student officer election results and the announcement of the 2027 NLC location.

How competitive events run at the national level
NLC events follow one of three formats. The format determines preparation strategy: objective events reward content recall, presentation events reward delivery and analysis, production events reward written deliverables judged against rubrics.
Objective Tests · 50-minute timed blocks
Multiple-choice content tests covering specific business subject areas — Accounting I, Business Calculations, Marketing, Personal Finance, Computer Applications, and many others. Tests are administered in scheduled 50-minute blocks across large convention center rooms, with students arriving 10 minutes before their scheduled time block.
Scoring is straightforward — number correct, normalized against the national field. Top-10 placers in each objective event are recognized at the awards ceremony. For popular events (Accounting I, Business Calculations, Public Speaking), fields can include 200–400 competitors at the national level.
Presentation Events · Judged by business professionals
Live presentation events where students deliver a prepared case analysis, role-play scenario, or speech to a judging panel of business professionals. Events include Business Plan, Public Speaking, Sales Presentation, Job Interview, and team case events. Most run as preliminary rounds Tuesday plus finals Wednesday.
Judges score against rubrics published in advance by FBLA-PBL — content, organization, delivery, professionalism, and Q&A handling. Business professional dress code is enforced; violations can result in disqualification. Top-10 placers per event are recognized at the awards session.
Production & Project Events · Pre-submitted + on-site
Production and project events have a two-stage format — written or media deliverables are pre-submitted before the conference, then top-scoring submissions are invited to present their work on-site to a judging panel. Events include Publication Design, Future Business Leader (FBL), Community Service Project, and Coding & Programming.
Pre-submitted material is scored against a published rubric; on-site presentation rounds typically count for 30–40% of the final score. Production events tend to have 100–250 entries at the national level. Final placements are announced at the awards session.

What it costs and how chapters book it
Total per-student cost typically falls in the $1,200 – $2,500 range for the MS/HS NLC, depending on travel distance and hotel choice. The four categories below cover the bulk of chapter logistics work.
Hotel booking
The official housing portal opens approximately 90 days before NLC. Chapters book through the portal to access the negotiated block rates with conference-adjacent hotels.

For international students attending the NLC
International students who qualify for the NLC through their U.S. high school chapter or DoDEA school follow the same chapter → state → national pyramid as domestic students — but with three operational differences worth planning around.
1 · Visa & travel. Students on F-1 visas attending U.S. high schools travel domestically to the conference city and do not require additional visa processing. Chinese students enrolled in U.S. schools follow their school’s standard summer travel protocol. Confirm passport validity (6+ months past return date) and any I-20 / DS-2019 sign-off requirements with the chapter advisor.
2 · Chapter coordination. The chapter advisor is the operational authority on site — registration, housing block, dress code enforcement, and curfew compliance all run through the advisor. International students should confirm the chapter’s chosen housing block and any chapter-specific arrival logistics 60+ days in advance.
3 · On-site support. The conference is run in English — all events, judging, and workshops are English-language. For first-time international NLC attendees, a pre-conference dry run of presentation events with English-speaking peers significantly improves Q&A handling. Two NLCs run in 2026. The Middle School & High School NLC is held in San Antonio, TX from June 29 to July 2, 2026, at the Henry B. González Convention Center. The Collegiate (PBL) NLC runs earlier — June 6 – 8, 2026 in Las Vegas, NV. Both dates are confirmed against the official fbla.org event pages.
02 Who can attend the NLC? +
Students who placed at their state-level competitive event for the current program year and are members in good standing of an active FBLA chapter. Each state association sets its own qualification thresholds — typically top 3 to top 8 per event. Chapter advisers, FBLA national officers, and state association staff also attend in supporting roles. The conference is closed to the general public.
03 How much does it cost to attend? +
Typical all-in cost per student is $1,200 – $2,500, covering registration ($150 – $200), 4 nights in the FBLA hotel block ($600 – $1,000), round-trip airfare ($300 – $800 depending on origin), and meals plus incidentals ($150 – $300). Chapters often subsidize part of the cost through fundraising. Hotel and registration deadlines are typically T–10 to T–6 weeks from the conference — booking late drives cost up sharply.
04 Can I attend the NLC without competing? +
Active FBLA members may attend as non-competing delegates — observing sessions, attending workshops and networking events, and supporting their chapter’s competitors. International observers may be admitted under FBLA-PBL’s international delegate program where invited. Non-member general public is not admitted to the conference floor. Awards Ceremony tickets are reserved for registered attendees and immediate family.
05 What does the NLC schedule look like? +
The MS/HS NLC runs roughly: Day 1 arrival, opening ceremony, chapter check-in. Days 2 – 3 competitive event rounds — objective tests in the morning, presentation finals in the afternoon. Day 4 Awards Ceremony in the morning, departure by afternoon. Workshops and networking events run in parallel throughout. Each chapter’s adviser distributes the chapter-specific schedule based on individual event assignments.
06 As a Chinese student, how can I attend the 2026 NLC? +
Two practical pathways. Path A — enroll at a U.S. high school with an active FBLA chapter (typical for students on F-1 visas at U.S. boarding or day schools), then qualify through the standard chapter → state → national pyramid. Path B — apply as an international observer / delegate through FBLA-PBL’s international engagement program where invited.
